Longleat hosted a five-day Military Spectacular in partnership with Military Headquarters South West and The Royal British Legion.
The first 3 days of the event, Wednesday 26th – Friday 28th September, were made up of a military education programme for local school children.
The Royal British Legion delivered a Thank You themed workshop which aimed to share some of the inspiring stories and amazing feats of innovation from WWI with the students. The workshop included an interactive game which focused on the everyday items we still use today which came out of WWI to highlight just how relevant The First World War remains to be 100 years on. This was followed by a series of exercises exploring some of the individual hero stories from WWI in more detail.
Over the weekend and the final two days of the Military Spectacular, The Royal British Legion were thrilled to bring artist Sarah Arnett’s impressive Thank You art installation to sit in front of the truly magnificent Longleat House. Guests at Longleat were invited to write ‘Thank You’ messages to the first world war generation whilst taking inspiration from the wealth of impressive armoured combat vehicles, interactive demonstrations, a dramatic twilight parachute jump and the immaculate musical processions all taking place over the weekend. A truly magnificent demonstration of all the features of the military today.
