Commemorative boards installed across Portsmouth to say Thank You to First World War fallen
Portsmouth City Council have begun the installation of almost 900 commemorative Thank You boards to honour the locals who lost their lives during the First World War.
Boards will appear in residential areas across the city, listing the names of the fallen who formerly resided in that street. The initiative marks 100 years since the end of the First World War, and serves as a Thank You to the people of Portsmouth who served, sacrificed and changed our world.
The project has really bought home the impact of the scale of the loss from the community during the First World War. On one street alone, Reginald Road in Eastney (pictured), four families lost a loved-one on the very same day at the Battle of Jutland, which claimed over 1000 lives from the port.
